Exellent balance - most things to most people!
2 of 2 found this helpful It is impossible to get the perfect camera for all situations, but I find this one to come closer than most. I needed a camera that was compact, decent pixel-count, practical and easy to use (once the principle of how to use it became clear) and a decent smattering of available functions, without too many cool-gadget-functions-that-you'll-never-use things, then this is a camera worth considering.
The thing that makes it stand out form the others is it's way of operating. Other cameras have multi-function two dozen labeled buttons that you have to memorize in order to find that particular function you want, only to find that a month later when you need that function, you've forgotten how to get there again.
This Samsung, however has a very curious sight at the rear. Yes there are over a dozen buttons, but only three of them have any symbol or text on or by them at all, which is very strange, and initially a little daunting, perhaps. However, once you have studied the system, and you get the hang of the principle, then it starts to become intuitive, and make good sense. Then you can start accessing those functions with ease and speed. Moreover, and this is the clincher for me, when six months later you want that particular obscure function or effect you have not used since the beginning, you don't have to try to remember where you put the manual so you can find it again, because you'll see you can find it intuitively, because of this system.
The following software works just fine, the picture quality and zoom functions work very well. It's a very nice size, and it has an unusual shape with a kind of ridge on the front side which makes an awful of of sense, handling-wise. Very quick start-up. Feels quite robust but not at all clunkey. Just a peach of a camera, with an overall excellent balance between quality and practicality.

Very good PDA/phone with option for SatNav
2 of 2 found this helpful For those of you who are looking for a decent PDA/phone, you could do a lot worse than getting the Nokia E61. If it had a camera as well I would be even happier, but this only means I tag along with a proper digital camera that does a better job anyway, and if I found one with a bluetooth or IR function, then maybe it would be as easy as well.
I find the overall Operating system very good and easy to get around, despite the odd timelapse switching between applications. (I still think the old system software in the 9000 series has yet to find its match).
Nice detail with the metal body: it not only looks better, but feels better as well, and this grows on you, somthing you really notice when you again pick up a plastic one.
Very good screen, in both quality and format, a more usable format. Keyboard takes a little while to get used to, but then again, good things often need that little extra effort to get into.
One very useful item I personally hjave a lot of use for is the Tomtom SatNav software whick, with a separate, very discreet little satillite receiver, hooked up via bluetooth, is a very reliable, accurate and "with you all the time without ever having to carry that extra bit of equipment" feeling.
Communications with laptops and PCs good and backup trouble-free, lots of 3rd-party software, and stable performance, permits me to give this phone the thumbs-up.
Here is some "proof of the pudding": I recently lost my phone. I was distraught, and I had the option of some very interesting free uppgrades from my opperator, but I without hesitation, not being even being slightly tempted to have the oppurtunity to try out something new, I paid out hard cash to get the exact same E61 again. Yhat must mean something.
