THE ORIGINAL SIXTIES GUITAR HERO
HAVING BEEN A SHADOWS FAN FOR NEARLY FORTY YEARS THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO SEE A GUITAR LEGEND IN CONCERT. AS A LOT OF SHADOWS FANS HAVE ACCEPTED THERE IS ONLY A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THE SHADS REFORMING FOR AN ANNIVERSARY TOUR.
WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A GLASSES WEARING "NERDY" TYPE TWENTY YEAR OLD WOULD INSPIRE, INCLUDING MYSELF, TO LEARN THE GUITAR. I DON'T THINK ANY GUITARIST TODAY OR OF MANY YEARS PLAYING WOULD NOT ADMIT TO HAVING LEARNED TO PLAY APACHE AS THEIR PRACTICE PIECE. SHADOWS AND HANK MARVIN VIDEOS AND DVDS ARE FEW SO BUY THEM WHILE YOU CAN. AND TO THINK THE FIRST TIME I SAW HANK PLAY LIVE WAS IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES WITH OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN HEADLINING AT THE PAVILION THEATRE IN BOURNEMOUTH FIRST HOUSE, PRICE 90P!!!!!!!!!!!!

The recording genius
This is a great two cd compilation of the lesser known early tracks from the genius that was Joe Meek, not an easy person to work with having spoken to some of the Meek artists.
All these tracks were recorded in various rooms of his flat 304 Holloway Road, London, and it was not unusual to have five different musicians in various rooms, drums in one room, guitar in another and so on.
His reputation is somewhat marked by his private life, and by comments from some of the older pop artists of the day, but they all agree although his recording techniques were unusual the end product was pure genius.
Some of the group tracks on this compilation include artists who went on to greater fame, Chas Hodges, Ritchie Blackmore, and Frank Allen of The Searchers.
One of the most true tracks on the album is,When I get paid, which was very true of Joe Meek as was told to me by a Meek artist, Mike Berry and John Leyton.
All in all a good compilation of the early work of one of the great record producers of the sixties who worked independently of the main ones, but leased his recordings to Pye, Decca and EMI.

KING OF THE SURF GUITAR LIVES
THIS RELEASE PROVED THAT DICK DALE COULD STILL ROCK, THROUGHOUT THE EIGHTIES HE WAS LARGELY FORGOTTEN BUT THANKS TO PULP FICTION THERE WAS A SURF REVIVAL.
THE GUITAR STYLE COULD BE CLASSED AS SURF GUITAR MEETS FUZZ.
DICK DALE STILL TOURS ALONG WITH HIS SON. WHEN I WAS ON HOLIDAY IN CANADA LAST YEAR 2007 I MISSED SEEING HIM BY A WEEK, BUT I DID MANAGED TO FIND A POSTER OF THE CONCERT. DICK DALE IS UP THERE WITH ALL THE FENDER STRAT GREATS, EVEN IF HE DOES PLAY IT LEFT HAND, BUT THEN SO DID JIMI HENDRIX, AND HE DID WELL FOR HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
