Witty and information - well worth a read even if you are not a keen skier!
This is a very readable and entertaining account of a season as a ski rep in Sweden in the 1990s. Andrew has a lovely self-deprecating, wry sense of humour and clearly thoroughly enjoyed his time in Are. Packed with very vivid and detailed descriptions it was very easy to imaging myself there sharing the experiences.
As an indifferent skier I was pleasantly surprised as there was a lot of other detailed information about Sweden, its customs and the many other excursions offered. Riding through snow on the Icelandic ponies, husky dog sleighing and the account of seeing the Northern Lights all stood out for me as great options - and there was plenty more on offer..
Andrew’s stories reminded me of my times working abroad, especially the sense of comradery with your fellow workers and the extraordinary way some of the guests behave. Definitely worth a read whether considering becoming a ski rep or not!
