Going with the boys: six extraordinary women writing from the front line by

Brilliant book
This book follows in a chronological order a collection of rare women war correspondents. It is gripping, this isn't just about them and how they inveigled themselves into a predominantly male profession. It is their unique view of war, a very unflinching and close up view. Their reporting of the creeping necessity of WW2 while the powers that be buried their heads in the sand and the persecution of the Jewish people is particularly sad and shaming. Read it, you will have your eyes opened!

Brilliant book, by a gifted writer- beware of outdated language.
This writer is absolutely brilliant. short stories, but of their time. That is my warning, they are set in America, in the south, in about the 1950's. So expect to be very aware of how language has changed since then, you will be startled, shocked even at the repeated use of one word to describe some of the characters. BUT if you can see past that, she writes beautifully, taking you right into the story, into the dialects and cares of these folk- I am very pleased to have got hold of a copy, I doubt it will be re-published.
