Superb book
This book is one a of a series by the specialist historian, peter hopkirk, who writes exclusively about the history of Central Asia. His knowledge is unsurpassed, the stories he tells are fascinating, and his writingis accessible, informative, exciting and immensely readable
This, the first of the series, is is responsible for a huge upsurge in interest in this area of the world.I have read three of his books, and keep having to buy new copies as I either give them to people, or lose them to friends who love them as much as I do.
The history of this fascinating but little-known region has lessons for all of us today, and the news every evening is filled with place names which resonate from this book and Hopkirk's others. Current events show that we have not learned the lessons from the past that we perhaps should have. This book should be required reading for politicians and military personnel as well as anyone who hopes to understand the West's current involvements in the region.
Highly, highly recommended

A work of genius
Kozintsev made what are arguably the two best Shakespeare films of all time. His Hamlet is more widely known, but this King Lear is superb. A stunning central performance by Yuri Yarvet, brilliant, atmospheric black and white photography, wonderful locations. If you like Shakespeare, this is a brilliant version of his masterpiece. If you're not a Shakespeare fan, it's an excellent film from a major director, and worth watching in its own right.
