A film that is always relevant to people living now!
Outstanding cast. Good values. Hayley Mills and Jane Wyman are particularly outstanding and deserved the awards they received for this film. This is a carefully made film that avoids most of the sentimental stereotypes that occur in Disney films. Adults would enjoy this film probably more than young children.

The joy of sticking-to-it and being proud of what you have.
Classic story. Above average cast--Beulah Bondi, Burl Ives (first film), Bobby Driscoll, Luana Patten (both from SONG OF THE SOUTH). First-rate animation. Will appeal to adults as well as older children concerned with memory, home, animals, and human values . "Lavender Blue"
Academy Award nominated song.

A meaningful and memorable coming home film.
Excellent acting and casting in this low-budget family melodrama. Use of color is particularly outstanding. One of Ann Sheridan's and Steve Cochran's best films as mature actors. Walter Brennan is memorable as usual and child actor Richard Eyer is almost as good here as he was in Friendly Persuasion.
