Ampeg Portaflex series: The Godness for a modern bass player

Ampeg sound like? Check!! Great portability? Check!! Powerfull for rehearsals and big pub/bar or any indoors gigs/venues? Check, check and check!! The first time I've read about this portaflex series I raised my doubts. First, because I used to play with a SVT rig (amp450 + 410 HE cab) and for the type of shows that I used to perform (between 5000 to 10000 people in outdoors live shows) that ampeg SVT rig was "The Juice"!!! Second doubt was about numbers: 250 watts (350w at 8 Ohms) in just a small and light box? How is that possible? Well, I found out that this amp is a great piece of engineering. I've plugged with a portaflex cabinet (pf-210HE) and all the Ampeg tunes, the power, the kick, the really low and deep notes are all there. It's the "Holly Grail" in terms portability, as you can attach the amp head to the cab and you just flip/flop when you need to play. Really easy to pack up, even your wife/partner/girlfriend will be amazed!!! Now, this amp doesn't have a band equalizer, just 5 controls: gain, bass, mid, treble and main volume. Is that a problem? Honestly no. Unless you're a professional, playing every single day, performing massive live shows, or you want to shape your sound to the tiniest detail. For someone that has rehearsals once/twice p week and an average of 4/6 gigs p month in bars/pubs or any other indoor venues, this is the perfect rig.
