Weirdly gripping

Beautiful animation of the underground world, with interesting and charming characters. But it is also very dark, very clear about the suffering of the characters, with very direct and explicit hurts. Not for little kids, despite the cute animation of the characters, and a very misleadingly cheerful ending animation for each of the first 10 episodes or so. Despite all this, it is a remarkable story, with great music, great characters, and gorgeous animation.
