Athlon XP2600+
1 of 1 found this helpful Purchased as a replacement chip for an aging PC, it works flawlessly. Although its not going to break any speed records or run 12 programs at once, it runs the Windows environment with no hitches and breezes through Office applications as well.

ALIENWARE M17X
3 of 3 found this helpful From the moment you set eyes upon the M17x you know you own something special, although for the money you would expect this! The build quality is exceptional and although the laptop is heavy, it is an assuring heavy and certainly not immovable as some reviews would have you believe. One way to look at the M17x (or perhaps the only way) is as a portable desktop, and a powerful desktop at that.
The main features of these machines isn't anything not seen before (dual graphics, large HDD's etc) but it does boast some extras such as the customisable backlit lighting system which enables you to change the colours of all of the lights including the keyboard (4 different colours at once). The M17x I have has 2 Radeon 5870 1GB cards and it runs the latest games flawlessly (and so it should). The screen (1900 x 1200 beyond HD) is so crisp and sharp and the colours so vibrant it is amazing to look at.
The 2 x 500GB HDD's are set up in a raid configuration and work well, although as with most things unless you are monitoring speeds with software then I didn't notice much difference over a single drive set up. The speakers are also good and provide decent sound but again I've had HP laptops which sounded equally as good. The usual suspects are lined up such as USB ports/VGA port etc
I read reviews slating the touchpad however, it functions as it should and as most of us realise, the touchpad is not something you would want to use for any extended period on any laptop! Another niggle from others is the firm closing of the lid when it gets to the last 2/3 inches - what do you want a lid that shuts firmly or something that flaps?!? In my opinion, as the lid doesn't have latches, the operation of the lid is quality through and through.
The laptop comes bundled with some extras such as a Mouse Mat, Baseball Cap, Recovery Disks and a nicely bound manual. As nice a thought they are I think Alienware should have considered a different approach. The mousemat is a straight forward basic affair with the ALienware Logo and the cap is a black cap with an Alien head on it. WHY??
Are you really going to wear the cap? Are you really going to use a basic mouse mat when most people use a laser/optical mouse and have no use for a mouse mat? Just how many times are you going to look at the manual?? Maybe for the future Alienware, oh ok Dell, should think about bundling something useful such as an Alienware branded laptop backpack or external mouse - items which will be used! I have separately purchased these and they are used daily.
In summary the M17x is a very very good machine and will certainly amaze those people who haven't seen/used one. There isn't anything at present it cannot run and it does it all with a sense of quality you'll not get anywhere else. The lighting effects are great and the customisation possibilites are vast. However, it is expensive and there are machines out there that almost equal the performance at half the price although they won't match the prescence of the Alienware. Knowing what I know now, would I buy one again........YES!

Quality
If you need a reason to buy this iPad then it should be purely for the sound. You will find yourself examining the iPad wondering where the almost surround sound is coming from. The screen is the usual iPad quality, sharp and crisp, and once you have used it, you will never want to go back to a smaller screen. An essential purchase is a combined keyboard and holder as it can become a little uncomfortable when holding it for long periods.
