Why I love the PS4... But 4K would make it perfect!
1 of 1 found this helpful I upgraded from a PS3 to this late model PS4. I didn't really expect the change to be so marked, but I've been really impressed. The CUH-1216 1TB is an upgrade over previous PS4 models, aside from being incredibly quiet (and supposedly being more energy efficient) is does away with the capacitance touch sensitive power and eject buttons, replacing them with good old fashioned push buttons and eliminating the erroneous ejecting of your game disk in the middle of your play due to the buildup of static around the console.
With the ease of buying games online and simply downloading them instead of buying DVD's it's really useful to have a 1TB capacity. I understand that if you buy a 500GB console, you can swap out the hard drive for a bigger one, but who wants to take their brand new console apart as soon as they get it.
Another real improvement over the PS3 is the controller. The PS4 controller feels heavier and more sturdy than it's predecessor when you pick it up for the first time. From the research that I did before buying the console found that the earlier model PS4 controllers were prone to bad wear on the thumb joysticks, this issue was addressed with the CHU-1200 series of PlayStations. Another surprise was the additional things that are built into the controller like the touch-pad that doubles as a big button (useful for scrolling though weapons in some games) and a headphone jack that you can plug in a headset (there is one that comes bundled with the console but isn't really very comfortable) so setting up party chat's is a cinch. There is also a small speaker built into the controller that some games make really good use of. For example in Grand Theft Auto V, when you answer the phone in the game the audio comes through the controller right in your hands instead of through the TV/sound system, it's the same thing when you hear the cops talking on the police scanner (there's a light on the front of the controller too that changes colour and if you happen to be running from the cops in GTA5 it also flashed red and blue like a police light). These things just add that little bit more immersiveness to the gaming experience. There are additional plugs in the controller that I haven't used yet. The controller that I bought is a 20th Anniversary controller which give a nod to the grey colours of the original console game controllers.
When upgrading from a PS3 to a PS4 the difference is like night and day. The improvements to the operating system, the graphics quality and overall speed are massive. If I already owned a previous model PS4 though, I'd wait for the next generation that supports 4K UHD video. Having recently bought a 4K TV, having my PlayStation able to play 4K games/video would make it pretty much perfect in every way!
