Looking for a 4000 dpi 35mm/APS film scanner - solid value for the $ here
I especially like this scanner for scanning 35mm black and white negatives using VueScan software. It seems to do a fine job with those, and the holder can hold up to 6 frames of 35mm negatives at once. * A second good thing about the Canoscan FS4000US scanner, at least if it includes the slide film holder, is that up to 4 35mm slides can be put in the 35mm slide holder at the same time. While the scanning speed for each one is not quite as fast as some Nikon 4000 dpi scanners, the Nikon scanners I've seen posted on sales sites usually appear to have only the ability to scan a single slide at a time. So, every few minutes the user has to revisit the Nikon competitor machine and insert the next slide. With this Canoscan, there are one-fourth the number of visits by the user ... I can do something else while scanning. * Many Canoscan FS4000US's also come with an APS film feed unit. I don't know if those are readily available for the competing 4000 dpi units - the Nikons I was finding on sales sites did not seem to include them. * The 4000 dpi Nikons I found on sales sites also were usually selling for twice the price of this Canoscan. And the new quality 4000 dpi flatbed scanners generally are also more expensive than this Canoscan while apparently generally producing lower-quality results for 35mm film. * In short, a used Canonscan FS4000US scanner is a good value for the money, I believe.
