Irish Railways Series
1 of 1 found this helpful Price was the main motivator in buying these (there are 5 in the series, and I have 3 of them). They are very good value, and commentary is useful without being over-detailed. Main drawback is built-in - the quality of the original film stock. However this is acceptable, and in places remarkable. The needs of a market which can't get enough of the original steam engine in action, means that the lower quality film of 8mm and 9.5mm, once spurned as amateur rubbish, is now sought after if the content is good. Shall buy the rest of the series, I suspect.

Using the Sony DVD110 Camcorder
2 of 2 found this helpful I bought this because I needed a camcorder with a viewfinder, being fed up with screens that you can't see if it's bright sunlight. I also wanted the files saved to a memory card, as it's the easiest way to get it to a PC. This model will save to memory card or mini DVD disc. After a struggle with getting the PC to read the Disc files, I removed the disc and just used the 2Gb Mem.stick I bought for it. Pity Sony still stick (no pun intended) to this format - it's a non-standard nuisance. The stick has to be formatted every time you want it cleared as moving stuff off in the PC doesn't seem to erase the files. No problem - the touchscreen works fine. Viewfinder works well. Can use the monitor if you prefer. One criticism - at long zooms (and this goes to 40) there is a jitter which I cannot cure and effectively means you can't use it. But no matter, 40X is too much for hand-holding anyway, even with steady- shot.
Basically, it's great. Use it in preference to my Panasonic 26 with 70X zoom (which it isn't really because it starts at wide-angle).

Using an old camcorder
Getting the right memory cards and card reader is the only problem I encountered. The camera has to be set for saving to the memory card - saving to the hard drive is the default but that means extra software and cables for transferring to a PC.
