The Tommy, Frank, Buddy, Jo, Bunny, Ziggy Show
1 of 1 found this helpful Alan Dell the late and much missed broadcaster produced the first collection of Dorsey Sinatra records in 1972. It was a boxed 6LP set with booklet. It won awards as it should have done.
In 1994 this set appeared with the same titles plus alternate takes and broadcast material. It comes with a sumptuous box with a book full of colour pictures and discographical information.
This was the Dorsey band at its peak with Buddy Rich playing beautifully, Bunny Berigan, Ziggy Elman and TD on top form. When you add the other vocalists to this package sharing the microphone with Sinatra (Jo Stafford, the Pied Pipers, Connie Haines) what more could you possibly want?
As such it is one not to miss. The transfers are top class. The songs are lovely. A joy both to the eye and the ear.

Best Sixties, well maybe third Best
I had volumes one and two of this series of top pop hits from the 1960's for several years. Unlike the original 45rpms (many of which either I or my wife bought when they were first issued) the transfers are superb. It is wonderful to hear the recordings of your youth sounding so clear and fresh. It is even more of a surprise to hear things in stereo for the first time. This is a really good selection of things, but volumes 1 and 2 are the best if you are only going to buy a couple from the set. Volume 3 is the weakest. Again if there is any complaint (and it is a minor one) it is a shame Virgin chose to repeat things on the sixties CDs they also put out on their Best Rock and Roll single volume issue. If you have all four albums you have 200 of the best singles of the decade. Such a rich period of music in so many styles, yet you could easily find at least another 200 worth putting out together.

Black Book A Triump Don't Miss It!
4 of 4 found this helpful I discovered this film on FilmFour whilst flicking through the remote late one evening. Even though it is subtitled the acting, direction and lighting were so dramatic I ended up watching enthralled. I recorded the last hour and naturally missed the last 20 minutes! I HAD to get a copy and my wife and I watched it from the start. My wife does not care for foreign language films but like me thought this was truly one of the best films we have seen in many a year. Director Paul Verhoeven has created a classic. Carice Van Houten is wonderful in the lead. She looks good and her role as Jewish singer means she has to sing too, which she does well. Supporting actors Sebastian Koch and Thom Hoffman are superb. And the story...it is gripping. Read the synopsis. I can't recommend this one enough.
