Barely Works... NO ENGLISH NEED APPLY!
Even with the most VIOLENT of spins, no proper internal yolk-mixing occurs!! And NOT ONE syllable of English comes in the enclosed brochure-- no receipt either! Can't make it work as it does on YouTube.... The Needle-Insert kind works much better after a 30-sec run (but won't run again if you get even one molecule of water on it!).

John Hammond's Legacy Faithfully Honored
I'd been searching for something like this ever since I saw and merely AUDIO-taped the 90-minute WTTW/Soundstage Tribute to John Hammond in 1977. That special was superior to this VHS production (which actually uses a few clips from Soundstage) by virtue of several priceless uninterrupted musical performances and roundtable discussions with Hammond himself. The "clash" between Benny Goodman and Benny Carter was my favorite, while Bob Dylan probably got more screen time than he deserved and Bruce Swingsteen was nowhere to be found, thankfully. Alas, Hammond's eclectic musical tastes diverge far from my own.
That Soundstage tape/DVD is not yet available and my quest continues. Meanwhile, THIS tape is the next best thing. What it lacks in actual performances it makes up for in raw history and goes far deeper into Hammond's personal and professional life than the other program. Usually, I get new DVDs and such and they go on the shelf for eventual viewing/listening. Not so for this one. I watched it right away and remain delighted... will probably view it again soon.
For those with an appreciation of American music at its ZENITH and the process by which that unrepeatable phenomenon occurred, I cannot recommend this Tape highly enough.
