Feel-good and funny
Steve Martin may be not to everyone's taste as a comedian but the writing in this slightly schmaltzy family comedy is tight and extremely funny. Martin plays the "good" son of a curmudgeonly neglectful Father (Jason Robards) and follows the trials and tribulations of he and his siblings as reflected in the sometimes chaotic happenings around their respective children.

A poor imitation
1 of 1 found this helpful Although very cheap, when mine finally arrived (the first order failed to arrive) it turned out to be unsatisfactory. The canvas is just about okay (for honing the razor edge) the hide strip is unsuitable in my opinion, not being sufficiently smooth to do its job

Read or watch..?
1 of 1 found this helpful Whilst an enjoyable watch, it's a more complex story when read, which the film does not really succeed in telling. Difficult of course in a 2 hour film to achieve the same level of characterisation but I found the film episodic and slightly confusing - less of a satisfying whole than the book. But if reading isn't your thing then I'd recommend it.
