Superb Humax Freesat Recorder
4 of 6 found this helpful Having recently experienced and been impressed by Freesat, I was not prepared for the extra performance of the Humax recorder.
Setting up was effortless. I had expected to find a display of satellite Net ID & Transport Stream because, with my previous receiver, I had been unable to get the recommended values (003b & 090b). I had been told that without these, I would be unable to use the EPG to control future requests for recording. However, without moving my satellite aerial, I find that the Humax is recording forthcoming items picked from the EPG effortlessly. So my fears were groundless.
After an initial struggle with the ways of their menu structure & editing facilities, the investment of a little time practising made most things do-able.
In its primary function as a recorder, it was simplicity itself : genuine point & click to record; and little more for playback.
This is a HD recorder but the curious feeling is that every channel, not just BBC1 HD & ITV1 HD, is HD. The quality of pictures generally is streets ahead of Freeview.
In my case, I got particular pleasure from being able to read/display good quality digital photos using a memory stick and store them on the hard drive. Their display on the screen was nothing less than stunning. Not sure if I am doing something wrong but, once imported, all photos lose their original date; they take as their date that upon which they were imported.
Perhaps asking too much but I would have liked there to be a shuffle/randomise function as is available with the Windows screensaver.
Music can be imported. Though I have yet to find out how to do it, I understand that 'playing' photos can be combined with playing music as part of a slideshow.
The remote itself is of very good quality. Mention must be made of the multi-remote feature. Fiddly to find the right codes for TV & DVD (as ever) but once set, the remote handles my three devices effortlessly.
My best ebay purchase yet.

Great Design
1 of 1 found this helpful There may be some non-standard, Dell-specific features but this Small Format Factor PC is really easy to use and easy to modify. With a 3 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM it runs very well for normal, non-game-fanatic users.
There is only room for a single HDD which means that, if you wish to upgrade to SSD and keep your data separate (which you should do), you would have to attach an external HDD.
It has a card reader in lieu of a floppy disc drive but, as this has a very poor writeup on the web, I recommend that you ignore this item.
It takes Windows 10 with ease and has a number of Dell utilities which may prove useful.
It has integral graphics for both VGA and a DisplayPort (adaptable for either HDMI or DVI), but note also that if you wish for better graphics you'll have to fit a half-height PCI-e card.
All in all, a great, inexpensive product.
