Lifetime Favorite Children's Book!
This is my lifetime FAVORITE children's book! Maurice Sendak presents a gnarly little character with some serious attitude problems. Pierre's issues land him home alone until there is a knock on the door...Love this book, the rhyme, the rhythm and the suitable moral in the end!

Daniel Rogers Davidson adds another layer to Connellsville’s already abundantly rich history! It’s 1836, Daniel is skipping rocks across the Youghiogheny River, daydreaming about his grandfather’s real battles with native Indians just decades ago, and avoiding his strict father’s admonishment of his leaving school that day. This is a story of a father disapproving of his son’s ways and path in life, although, in just a few years, the boy will run a successful farm that he develops into a productive coal and coke yard. Despite his father’s heated objections, Daniel will be the moving force in bringing a railroad from Pittsburgh to Connellsville for transport of this area’s coke to Pittsburgh’s steel mills. He sells the coke ovens to one friend, H C Frick, while another friend betrays him to favor the growing B&O RR. The story will capture you, and the history will give you a new view of the Connellsville area—whether you live in the North End, the location of the 1800’s farm, or Davidson Ave. The father-son relationship of over 150 years ago is still, to this day, apparent in the location of their graves in Snyder Street’s historical Hill Grove Cemetery! Chapter by chapter, the author’s prose is factually backed up by informative Endnotes and a rich bibliography. This book is good reading and a great addition to anyone’s local history collection!
