Get the right cable, and it works every time.

This cable works great. I have two different radios. Baofeng UV5R V2 and TYT UVF1. Both radios (purchased used on Ebay came with cheap cables). While the included used programming cables worked did work initially, both failed("could not connect to port" or "port unavailable" errors and failed programming on the display) the next time I went to change the programming. I ordered this cable, it arrived quickly and I have programmed and reprogrammed both radios several times since and there were no issues. This programming cable works every time.

Good connectors as long as you use larger wire. Smaller wire breaks off easily.

I have been using PowerPole connectors for about 4 years now. Easy to use. I crimp & solder these onto the wires. The only issue I see and it is consistent is that if you use wire that is smaller than 14 AWG, there is no strain relief and the wire breaks off in the connector- which is a pain in the xxx, and requires rebuilding. This occurs usually during a crucial moment of whatever you are doing. 14 AWG and 12 AWG work well.
