Built like a tank (but is far quieter than one)

Mackie's advertising always says 'Built like a tank' and they're not wrong - this thing is solid. Sound quality-wise, my only criticism could be that the headphones output can be a bit too loud (hardly an actual problem especially as there is a dedicated knob to turn it down...it's just far hotter than I would have expected). The routing possibilities are very flexible, so much so that I had to consult the manual to figure out some of the options but the manual is written in a manner that is actually fun and engaging as well as describing the operation very clearly.

Ever changing Maschine

This thing has more features than you could possibly want and they keep on adding more via the Maschine software. I haven't yet seen such additions break any of the existing features so they are added in a very sympathetic and complimentary way and give you the feeling that they have always been there and maybe you just didn't notice before... The full-on Gold effect was a bit much for me though (I only bought the gold version as it was cheaper) so I replaced the main faceplate with a darker version which also happens to have slightly easier to read labels. The hardware itself is rock-solid and feels totally dependable; the buttons are a nice firm rubber with a satisfying 'click' when pressed, the knobs are smooth and precise and the displays are clear and informative - you hardly ever need to look at your computers monitor...seriously. Whatever colour of hardware you get though, the software is the same and that is the real power of Maschine. Power that improves and increases with every revision.
