    CUCKOO Electric Rice Cooker CR-0631F 6-Cups Pink 110 V

    Great step up.
If you are happy with the basic "Walmart" rice cooker, and there is nothing wrong with that, stick with what you know. But if you want a more durable and versatile machine, a good start would be this cooker. I cook rice daily and this machine does a great job every time. I have used jasmine, jasmine brown, basic brown, sweet, and medium length sushi rice in this cooker. I have used both brown rice out of the bag and the GABA as well. The only setting I haven't used yet are the porridge, steaming and custom timed settings. I have washed the rice before cooking and I have just dumped the rice in and added water. I have added goodies into the rice like a tomato, mushrooms, Chinese sausages, or preserved radishes. It has cooked everything and I have had no trouble with clean up. Be aware though, the turbo setting only shaves off minutes from the total cooking time, you are not looking at Minute Rice cooking times. But if you want rice for a dinner dish, start the rice before going to work and the warming capabilities will give you a nice hot rice dish waiting for you when you get home. The size is about right for a small to medium family, depending on the amount of rice each person eats. It makes smaller amounts as well and would not have a problem with recommending this to a single or college bound person. The person that recommended this to me used to cook Ramen and hotdogs while he was in college, though I never tried that yet. There is no "perfect" machine, and I can see where some people will have problems with this machine. One I have already mentioned, is the time. Depending on what kind of rice and amount, you can be looking at around 55 minutes cooking time. This is not the last minute cooking type of machine. And this machine is a very versatile piece of equipment. There is many different things that can be done with this machine. I for one will be using well over half of the capabilities so it is well worth the price for me. But if your only going to be cooking white rice with the occasional brown rice, I would say stick to the lower priced models. This will definitely cook just the two, but why pay this much for a machine when you can save money to use a basic cooker? Another con for me, is the drain holes for excess water is just open holes. When I first started using it, I did drop my fair share of rice grains down them. I wish there was better access so I could better clean the grains out. Or to have a screen cover. But really, this is nitpicking for cons. All in all, I am more than happy with this rice cooker for my needs. It has been a better experience than even with the Japanese models I have used. In looking for a cooker I compared the regular rice cooker and the pressure rice cooker. In the short time I have "tortured" this machine, it has impressed me enough that I think my next rice cookers will be Cuckoo brand.
