Why haven't thou not seen it before?
This is a great film for adults as well as children and if you have, the family to watch together.
If you did not know it is based on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. With strikingly obvious differences between the two family's it is that old story of romance and love with lots of fun inter mixed. The use of two gardens being the setting for this and using gnomes brings Shakespeare to a younger and possibly older, audience.
Where there is lots of fun and action to keep the young amused and transfixed there are also many subtle references to the play Romeo & Juliet. For example, the name of the removal company which is ... sorry, no spoilers, you'll have to watch the film!
