Philips CD-104
1 of 1 found this helpful One of the first CD players on the market with the very first DAC in the history. It souds great like it is but if you "downgrade" its digital part removing oversampling, and upgrade the analogue part with better op-anps, this 14-bit iron baby (32cm/7kg) will beat many high-end players. As you take a soldering iron, do not forget to change electrolytic capacitors. Just google "Philips CD-104" - a lot of information on the modifications.

Great for classical music!
2 of 2 found this helpful For the money you pay on eBay these earphones are just amazing! I am listening to mostly operas on a 3rd Generation iPod and the music is recorded in Apple Lossless format. This model of iPod is relatively quiet and ordinary earphones do not provide you with all the dynamic spectrum of a symphonic orchestra. The Shure E3C are very special. They are louder and separate the instruments and especially the vocals with high precision. Domingo's distant "Deserto sulla terra... "in Il Trovatore (Deutscher Grammophon - 1984) is so clean and distinct in Shure E3C that even Oxford Street's noise wouldn't interfere! The rumours about the discomfort of these phones have been greatly exaggerated. The Shure E3C are just different and you have to get used to their logic. I had never listened to music with in-ear earphones before and it took one hour before I stopped noticing them. And then - just the pleasure of great sound!
