For me ... Flawless Victory!
Hi I hope this is of some use as I spent a great deal of time researching the next step in canon quality! I use a 50d at the moment and had an 18-55 kit lense to begin with. Enjoying the crop factor for now! I bought this for portrait work and love landscapes, sunsets. I was getting frustrated with the quality of picture I was getting and the quality I wanted! Really I wasnt sure that spending near on a grand would be the answer but if your considering this.. do it! If you choose an auction site rather than new remember to obtain the i.d number printed on the lens mount. this tells you where & more importantly when its made. I was bidding on 2 lenses and after obtaining this info i found one lens was manufactured 5 years newer than the other! The one i lost was built in 2005 but the lens i now own was built last year! & this one was £100 cheaper! So do your research! It pays off. The clarity is fantastic and the f2.8 is Bokeh heaven ( or soft background) & will give you that push up you need. There is no IS system but to be honest before this revolution of digital photography there was no IS!! keep around 125th of a second and you`ll be fine. No real downsides for me I havent had it long enough but cant really see any.
