excellent compendium for true tolkien fans, a beautiful edition demonstrating the skillful versatility with which tolkien developed his worlds by presenting his visual art to a wider audience.

compelling reading
1 of 1 found this helpful excellent novel, it can perhaps be considered to be written in a late art-nouveau style, and compelling reading; not a simple fable or parable at all, nor a mere children's book.
this edition is with a map but without further images, which i expected after reading it being recommended, but this is not such a big deal, as the well written detailed descriptions create a clear imagery in the reader's mind.

tolkiens artistic output complemented
makes it quite clear how much tolkien produced a work of art which is more than literary alone; the philological inventions have been highlighted in other books, but this book offers a good overall perspective on his visual art, developed alongside his well-known masterworks.
definitely a goodread, and a volume to accompany rereadings of his books.
