Ping S58 Iron Set 2-PW Steel Right Hand Stiff - Used
    20 Jul, 2016
    Underrated, yet very capable irons.
I think these irons are great. They have a very low center of gravity, so they are easy to elevate for someone who is a sweeper of the ball like me. They are player's irons though, and their lower MOI reflects this. I can hit shots high, low, RTL, and LTR at will. Of course, they can hit boomerang hooks and slices too, so you have to be a little bit careful. That said, I much prefer the option of being able to shape shots, rather than have irons that have so much MOI that they can only go high and straight (if your aim is good). Looks-wise, the darker finish is kind of industrial, but I think they will wear like iron, unlike a lot of shiny chrome irons that look all beat up 2 months after you bought them. The topline is narrow and the soles are too with very little camber and bounce. This particular set of irons is barely used, though they were built in 2007. They have very sharp grooves, and I am shredding the cover on balls like I haven't done for years. They came with CS-Lite stiff shafts, which get bad reviews on many golf forums for being tip soft and too high launching. I don't find that to be true at all. I have owned Ping i20, i25, and S55 irons all with CFS stiff shafts, and they launch way higher than the CS-Lite shafts. Distance-wise, they hit the ball just as far as any other set of irons I've owned, so no issues there. All in all, I am very happy with them. They are certainly not the most beautiful irons I've ever owned, but they're not ugly like most SGI shovels either. I guess they just look 'capable' to me. And they play that way too.
Titleist 904F 17° 3 Fairway Wood Stiff Flex Fairway Woods > Titleist Golf 532984

    904F 17°
I owned several 904F fairway woods about 10 years ago, and got away from them thinking something better was always waiting in a newer club. After playing a multitude of Ping, Callaway, and TM fairways, I have discovered this is not so. These 904F woods are super solid in feel and sound when you hit them. The heads are smaller than is normal these days, but that makes them workable. I have a hard time working the ball with recent vintage fairway woods because their higher MOI fights against it. They are made to go straight only, which is not what I prefer. Distance-wise, the 904F woods will not be longer than newer models with speed slots and hyper-velocity faces, but they are not short by any means. Give them a try.

    Tommy Armour 845m irons
I've played with everything from cast cavity backs to forged cavity backs to forged blades, and these 845m's are the best. They are a smaller headed muscle back with very little offset, but don't let the looks put you off. Even though they are not for the high handicapper, they are quite forgiving and will work the ball any way you can think of. I replaced the stock shafts with Rifle 6.0s and couldn't be happier. The high, boring trajectory cuts through the wind but also lands the ball softly. I love these clubs so much, I bought a second set to use when I wear out the first ones!
