A diamond in the rough
This film is a delight to fans of Lionel Atwill, because it's one of the rare times he played a goodie, which in this case is actually a tragic character who starts off at the top but is betrayed by one of his business partners, ending up in the gutter as a beggar. Did I mention that he loses his legs in the process?
Wonderful flick with great film transfer, although this truthfully isn't the best print that I've seen. There is one circulating on YouTube that is clearer and also has better sound, but this disc works in a pinch for the great price. And you can't beat that cover! (although truthfully the portrait of Atwill is actually from another film, Doctor X, but that's beside the point). Another great Alpha Video release for the shelf!

Lovely picture!
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a great DVD release for this film, especially for people who don't want to buy the previously released box set to obtain just this title. It skips the menu and goes right to the film, which I really like because it saves time going through all the menu options.
The picture is almost HD in quality and the sound is very rich, apart from segments where there is music in the background and it becomes slightly loud, going back to a quieter volume when there is just talking without a musical score. This is a gem of a film that we are fortunate to have and this, I feel, is the definitive DVD of it. May even be up for an ultimate edition someday with a making-of and such.

"You're the one! What mad thing are you doing!?"
Great release by Alpha Video for this little classic. Superior to the prior Telefilms International release with better picture and sound quality. Great cover art as well. My only wish now is that a proper in-depth release be printed with extras such as poster and still images and possibly a commentary track. Until that happens, this is the best version available.
