Another great City Boy album.
I have been a City Boy fan since I heard “5705” played on the radio in Kansas City in 1978. However, for 30 plus years I thought that they had just produced seven albums. It was incredible news to find this virtually unreleased gem - City Boy’s 1981 swan song — and even better when the eventual CD release became available in 2008.
The four strongest members (of the six) remain for this release - Max Thomas on keyboards, Lol Mason on lead vocals, Mike Slamer on guitars and bass and Roy Ward on drums and also lead vocals.
While not quite as consistent as the prior three releases, this album has some killer tracks that show off Slamer’s blistering guitar and the should-have-been legendary vocals of Lol Mason and Roy Ward. Max Thomas - the professor also duly brings the band into the 80s with his keyboard wizardry.
Best tracks include the title track, “No Ordinary Life” and “Rat Race”. This band was really something special and I’m crushed that they never got the recognition they so richly deserved. Thinking man’s lyrical, driving, imaginative, textured rock with world class vocals in a pop package. Buy it.
