Excellent pedigree but has quality dropped?
2 of 3 found this helpful I chose the Nikon S550 as a Christmas present for my 21 yr old daughter because it combines a well known high quality brand with a set of features that are ideal for someone who wants to snap party photos (the image stabiliser and face detector) and live bands (image stabiliser and 5 X optical zoom), in a compact, pocket/handbag friendly package. I also got this new at a bargain price through eBay.
However, just a few days after initial use the automatic lens covers have started going wrong - not fully opening when the camera is switched on and not fully closing when switched off. This Nikon Coolpix Camera is covered by a 2 year guarantee from Nikon, advertised on the box, so I trust that all will end well. We shall see. It will be disappointing if Nikon have let their standards drop though.

Good quality with one irritation
We've had Ideal Standard Ceraplan taps installed. We bought them because they emulate high quality German brassware (Hansgrohe etc), but accommodate the low pressure indirect feed water systems common in the UK (i.e. houses with a cold water tank). The quality is good and we've had no problems. I bought this model without a pop-up waste to accommodate an irregular shape sink new sink, but was disappointed to find that Ideal Standard had just used the same tap as for the pop-up waste with the slot for the plug control filled in with a loose plastic insert (see photos below). I can see why this would save Ideal Standard money but I've never seen the European makes get so cheapskate! A shortcoming in an otherwise nice design.
