A great history.
This is a great history of the jarls of Orkney. Puts you right there.

Recommended
This is an interesting book for anyone with an interest in Norway and Norwegians. I am Engilsh and together with my Norwegian wife I lived in Norway for 14 years where we raised our family. I write and speak fluent Norwegian and I am well versed in Norwegian culture. If we had still been living there I would have applied for Norwegian citizenship. I would n't relinquish my British citizenship and in fact I would n't need to as Norway allowed this from last year (2021). We have both read this book and we believe that the author Dan Elloway have got it pretty spot on. Obviously there are a few things that are slightly exaggerated and over generalised but that is to be expected. Allin all we recommend this book which is easily read in an hour or so. My wife has now ordered "The Xeonophobe's Guide to the English" - should be intersting.
