Essential gear
3 of 3 found this helpful This Canon lens is not only great fun and inspirational to use, it also produces top class images. If you have a 400D or 450D, this is often the only lens you will need, except perhaps for the (very cheap and brilliant) 50/1.8. Just try one and see!

In its own right
6 of 6 found this helpful I bought this because I missed my last M8, which I had swapped for an M9. Having a smaller sensor, the M8 is a different animal altogether, and stands on its own merits. The 35mm equivalent lens is the Elmarit 28/2.8, which is stunningly good, very compact, and comparatively cheap. A 50mm lens becomes a 67mm which is regarded by many as a perfect general lens, making you concentrate on your subject and frame tightly. And an Elmarit 135mm f/2.8 effectively becomes a 180mm!----for around £170 or even less!
Lastly, I like the way it handles. It is easy to use, and forgiving of mistakes.
And I'm using it as a backup for my M9, which I dropped and had to return for (free) repair to Leica.
Nobody else makes anything like it.

A neglected masterpiece
This was way ahead of its time, so it's still up to date. Very compact; beautifully made; versatile 24-100mm zoom range; HD video; numerous shooting modes; and now available at bargain prices. It is still a class leader.
