Impending death...
This cd officially marks the demise of Whiteheart. Up until this point their pop-rock shtick was amusing but now, this cd officially signifies that they are indeed washed up. While they did make some good music in the early 80's and did provide a bonafide ministry, it is finally time to put to rest those antics of a bygone era. It's too bad, but they could have stopped earlier and gone out in style.
Here they try to recover the 80's glam rock that first made them so popular but alas, it was to no avail. They are great guys with talent and unusual sincerity, but here they fail to change with the times. Whether they try to recapture that 80's popularity or reinvent themselves with the times, they fail miserably musically.
Here they also lose the appeal of their teen audience, their primary market. While heartfelt, their musical skill cannot makeup for their trite lyrics this time around. This is disappointing but sadly, was to be expected sooner or later; sooner in this case.
Unless you are a diehard fan and stuck in the 80's, and get a super deal on this cd, best to avoid it. Their earlier work has many hits and less misses, as are all the songs here.

an early phase that's more than just a passing phase
This is good rap in its infancy. These guys have talent and there's lots of variety. While probably danceable, perhaps more so break-dancing than hiphop. The is pretty old school, but still cool.
These evangelists were at one with the streets. They knew the hood and the needs of their neighbours. They speak the language and communicate biblical truth unashamedly.
Hoods of Good is probably the only song that includes guitars and is the better of them. Kill the Spirit is about as intense as it comes. There's also some jammin' mixin' goin' down here, sweet scratches and a few soundbites.
But, there is some impromptu filler that definitely dates these tunes. Some of it is cute first time around but most is kind of annoying.

a conversation worth eavesdropping upon
An autobiography of sorts, many readers will find this book very insightful and encouraging, inspiring even. Isaacs deals with the unbiblical expectations that we project onto God. As a writer and actress, many will find her stories very interesting. However, not everyone will like the language that she often uses, especially those with a legalistic or judgmental bent.
Isaacs is indeed snarky, to say the least. Her sarcasm and sarcastic caricature of God is very unusual. Her honesty, though blunt and poignant, is commendable. While I wouldn't wish her journey on anyone, I do appreciate her sharing hers with us.
In her book, she takes God to task. She involves him in her therapy, a series of fictious marriage counselling sessions. A very unique approach to having a relationship with God. No holds are barred and she spars toe-to-toe and even in the end, when she loses, she actually comes out a winner. This is a combination: TheShack, BlueLikeJazz, & Job.
