Amazing slice of cinema history!
I discovered this film whilst looking through lists of "greatest animated films ever made" and such. I have always liked cartoons and the genre has moved on in so many ways over the last few deceades. Having said that, this film dates back to 1973 and I suppose it shows this.
Classic animation techniques are used to breathe life into the story and the colouration is highly indicative of the time period.
The story is allegorical and like all good stories, causes us to consider our place in the world, how we fit into it and how we are living our lives.
The Blu Ray release is bright and clear with options for either English subtitles (it is a French film) or the U.S. dubbed version. It also has some extras - other animated shorts by the director, including his early first animation made in and by mental patients in the clinic-retreat where he was working as an art/creative therapist.
I consider this film an absolute must for any student of animated film.

Excellent surround-sound speaker package, even at the RRP of £800.
Fairly small, unobtrusive surround speakers, and although the subwoofer is not small, it is quite slim so it fits into spaces where a regular square shaped sub wouldn't.
The designers have thought very carefully about the system, and in particular how all of the speakers will work together. Seems obvious, doesn't it? Well, if you buy a few pairs of smallish regular HiFi speakers, the 'throw' will be too long for most normal sized rooms in the UK, leading to problems with the set-up of the system, resulting in patchy sound, or rear sounds being too loud for the front speakers and dialogue.
Q-Acoustics have clearly understood this, and the 7000i package works seamlessly in my lounge, with no strange overlaps, or mismatches with the surround speakers.
The entire package is very well made, with neat design touches like swiveling stands and hidden tunnels to hide the cables.
Highly recommended as an option for people with regular to medium sized rooms.

An astonishing apocalyptic feast for the eyes.
I think 9 is an underrated gem of a film. Although it is an animation, it deals with some very weighty themes, has some genuinely tense moments, and some scary villains.
The appearance of the characters, and the design of the sets is brilliant, and enhances the themes we see during the film.
It is, quite simply, one of the greatest apocalyptic dreams ever committed to film.
