Good hardware and 100% stock Android One from Google
1 of 1 found this helpful I upgraded to Oreo the day I got it last month … and Google will provide updates for at least two years.
I love the Full HD screen, 64GB memory, 4GB RAM & octo-core CPU. Quite fast enough.
Battery lasts for a day, and does not struggle with lots of apps.
With generic standard Android you can pick and chose your own apps from PlayStore.
I expect to get several years of good use out of it. PC soffware link and Backup support wasn’t great – so I installed a free third party app.
While Xiaomi don't sell it officially in UK there are lots of accessories wildely available and it is UK LTE/4G band compatible. For less than £150 now it's an absolute bargain midmarket smartphone from a big brand with global reach - why pay more for frills and and a massive advertising campaign?
It doesnt have “NFC” for android pay etc and it doesn’t have quick charge – but it charges quite fast enough - about 2.5 hours from flat, and it's not waterproof - all would be nice to have - but you can live without those.
Camera is pretty good in decent light – esp with HDR on. Struggles a bit in low light (common issue at thios price) - read online reviews if you care about detail.
If you are considering a Mi A1 you are not going to be wanting or able to spend £££££ on an iPhone X or Galaxy S9 ... but without spending a lot more you get more bang for you buck wuith an A1.
My closest alternative option was a Moto G5+ from Lenovo - pretty close in value and has some features the Mi doesn't - but I felt a little weaker overall. The deciding factors for me were the more memory & RAM, and OS support from Google until at least Sept 2019.

Great value - very happy
Solid and durable - easy to hold excellent value. The case colour is 99% obscured if that matters to you.
