Nikon Coolpix 990 - Great for Macro Photography
1 of 1 found this helpful I recently bought two Nikon 990s via ebay.
The first gives beautiful pictures in Automatic mode, but has a couple of the manual features seemingly not working. Most folks will use this in automatic mode and I'll be gracious and say the seller might not have realised there were some issues with the camera.
The second camera came with a lot more accessories at a low price and all seems to work very well. A real bargain.
Despite advances on more modern digital cameras, the 990 still gives outstanding pictures even at what is by modern standards a modest 3.34 mega pixel resolution. Fully working models allow the user to really set up the camera manually to get exactly the picture you want. For day to day shooting the Auto mode works just fine.
Anyone wanting to do close up macro work should really take a look at this camera, if you can find one ( not made for many years now but don't discount it because of that ) It just takes really great close up photos.
There's something about the solidity of the camera, the design and shape which helps steady the shot and reduce camera shake.
The lens on this model is truly superb!
Be aware that the camera does tend to soak up a lot of power and standard batteries don't last too long, but buy yourself some decent AA say 2700 mAh batteries (ideally rechargeable - it takes 4 )and everything is fine.
Some great 990s currently ( June 2010 ) on UK ebay for around £30 - £40. Real bargain if you can get one fully working

Good quality product
We have had one of these before and it wore out with old age. They are excellent and highly recommended
