Nice phone but battery is a bit weak
1 of 1 found this helpful Have the X and felt X performance would be a nice upgrade adding in waterproofing, and a faster chipset for only a little extra cost. And it is. However, use that performance and the battery is rather small. I get 2.5 to 3 hours screen on time versus 3.5 to 4.5 on the standard X. Its quicker. Lightning fast infact and very smooth in games. But the X usually feels smooth so it's only power intensive tasks that you notice the difference. WiFi speed and reception are also a bit better. Overall this makes a nice daily phone. Camera works well in most conditions. Compare it to competition in lots of ways and these sonys use but as a phone to live with it works well. Little touches like showing the alarm time on the lockscreen make life easier. As does the nice feel in the hand. It works well. But unless you need the extra performance or play games a lot I'd stick with the X as the mid range chip is less battery intensive.

So good its annoying! Beats modern camera's by a mile.
I own a 3 year old P200 which I got about 6 months ago off ebay after seeing a friends example.
Its great, however compared to modern competition it has only a small 2 inch screen, no optical stabilisation, no wide angle lens, and its a little bit bigger as well.
So I decided to replace it. With a fuji F40fd. Oh dear, nowhere near as good, purple fringing, cold colours, P200 much better.
I then tried a panasonic Fx07. Noisier, when compared the P200 results are clearly sharper too.
Canon ixus 60 - softer, poorer results.
A mates pentax optio - less natural colours, much poorer inside.
Panasonic FX33 - Now thats much newer, 3rd generation model. But once again the P200 can teach it a thing or two when it comes to image quality.
So why are all these new camera's failing to match it. Firstly the carl zeiss lens is brilliant. Then there's the 1/1.8 inch sensor. Its bigger than panasonics 1/2.5 inch one and that means the dynamic range is better. What that means is that for high contrast shots everything is well exposed. With the panasonics part of the images are over exposed, and part of the images are under exposed.
Then there's all the manual settings over apeture, shutter speed, focusing type etc. Even on auto the camera's got hundreds of options to pick from and it usually picks well.
If it had optical image stabilisation it would be awesome. As it is its very good and beats anything I try and replace it with! Perhaps I should just accept its flaws (all of which are due to the fact its 3 years old technology) and keep it.
What a camera!

Classic nokia smartphone works a treat.
I really like the n95 8gb for its simplicity. Its a refreshing alternative to touch screens. Firstly you don't get the screen all covered in finger prints, texting is much faster, and the aerials at the top so you're less likely to cover it and lose the network coverage. Its quick and efficient and the whole thing actually feels more refined than the newer n97, x6 and 5800 smartphones which run symbian 5. You can tell symbian is designed with a conventional keypad in mind and using it is a joy. Also can get unlimited maps (of any country with GPS spoken guidance for £10 a year). No other GPS system offers this, except the newer nokia ones which have it for free. The version on n95 is superior though with a better address search. Nokia mucked it up a bit with newer versions. No doubt they'll fix it. Battery life is also reasonable, the cameras decent, and music sound quality is very good. If you don't really need a touch screen but still want a fully featured phone buy this!
