Amazing device - works extremely well, would recommend one to anyone with a mucky pond. It does what it say's on the box, I just couldn't stop using it. One tiny downside the collection bag is a bit small and needed regular emptying and cleaning. Take the bag off and operate the vacuum just under the water and you have a novel way of filling the pond with the added bonus of a water feature too.

Buy it ---- Rebuild it

Its well constructed, but that's as far as it goes. Metal spray paint has been used for the disc segments and the coating on the layden jars. Also the polarised static is shorted out so there is no discharge. Its the outer coatings that should be connected so as to encourage the charge to build. I know what I'm talking about as I built one of these my self from scratch back in the 80's and achieved a 6" spark discharge.
