Great rock Les Paul for live gigs
I play since 1960 and used to have zillion guitars and amps and even now I have at least 25 guitars with at least 10 Les Pauls, from Studio to Custom Shop Florentine. In short, I am an expert and I can strongly recommend this guitar to young players who need a reliable, live stage guitar that truly rocks ... she can handle blues too or pop or funk ... yet is not jazzy sounding. Metal rock I do not play so cannot say; probably OK, but not quite. If you need metal rock guitar you probably want an ESP, yet for jazz or subtle styles, I recommend the Gibson 50s Tribute Studio Gold Top. This LPJ has nice sustain, great pups, plenty of rock attitude and she rocks and sings with a good tube amp ... recommended.

Great jazz guitar in the ballpark of ES335, yet more fluid and contemporary
1 of 1 found this helpful I play since 1960 and had around 50 guitars (still have 25) and this one is in top 5-10 with Gibson CS ES339 or with Fender 1991 Strat Plus (with EC pickups). The sounds are juicy and soft and expressive and I am very impressed ... all that for $600 (case included)! Buy one if you play jazz and blues. The only negative side is that for me at 5'10'' it is on the large side and I prefer 339 or Les Paul sizewise, but THE sound this baby has! And I like this blue colour too :-)

Great Les Paul Custom for accomplished, experienced players.
Comfortable Les Paul for accomplished players. She is light and has great neck (rosewood fretboard), with usual 490/498 pick-ups. I rarely use the splitting, but it can be useful. I would not recommend her for heavy rock or metal, although she can deliver. This is a classic rock guitar that is useful in any style live on stage, yet not really my first choice for subtle blues or jazz (for that I prefer my CS-339 or ES-335). As somebody said, it is light like an SG yet the neck is truly outstanding and the sound versatile, albeit not as 'heavy' and thick as usual vintage custom Les Pauls. The actual sound depends a lot on the amp you use. If you use Kemper profiler, or all tube Fender Prosonic, Deluxe Reverb or Marshall stack you can get almost any tone, yet she may sound somewhat thin, if you use some solid state combo. In summary, this is a light custom Les Paul with a great neck that I do recommend to accomplished, experienced players. Light guitar to be used for hours on stage or in a church worship.
