Another M18 winner...
I didn't realize I *needed* this until I bought it. Doing maintenence isn't a favorite pastime for most folks, but suffice to say it makes it quick and easy. Commonality of batteries and support made this a logical choice.

"I chose wisely..."
Besides the lack of a vehicle-brand logo on the back, the transponders were identical to the OEM devices. As "advertised," they were readily programmable by my trusted locksmith, as well as shipped with strong batteries. I am pleased with my purchase.

Garmin GPS II through V; Why buy an older GPS?
2 of 2 found this helpful The Garmin brand is well known, and I believe well respected, among GPS users. I purchased my first one, a "45" back ~1995. Since then I've owned several more, all based on the "GPS II form factor." My latest acquisitions were two GPS V units here on eBay. This begs the question, why continue buying older, and potentially "outdated", technology? There can be many reasons, but my answers deal with use of appropriate technology *and* my existing "infrastructure." First, and foremost, these GPS units use four "AA" batteries, with the newest ones able to be specifically configured for alkaline or various types of rechargeables. This is *VERY* important to me, as I use mine almost exclusively for bicycle touring. The ability to use "AA" batteries allows me to utilize rechargeables if the possibility to charge exists (AC outlets and/or solar capability), or use alkalines (almost universally available) as needed. Second, the ability to configure the devices for "portrait mode" greatly simplified my mounting, as that's the configuration that works best on my "bike," a tadpole recumbent, where the GPS literally sits between the pedals. Third, the "infrastructure" issue noted above. While I already have quite a bit of "stuff" (power adapters, serial cables, antennas, etc.) common to all these models, all of the accessories are still readily available here on eBay as well as other venues. Fourth, and last for this review, is the reasonable cost. Constant exposure to the elements, and possibility of theft, can take a toll on any equipment, including GPS units. Buying less expensive, used, but still high quality equipment, meets my needs without putting too much money at risk. In closing, these are good, solid, serviceable units that should be considered when you're looking at GPS capabilities for unique applications.
