A simple solution worth a try
I was a bit sceptical, but I have to say that so far we have been able to eat alfresco without being bothered by wasps. So far so good then.

Entry level walking GPS
The Garmin Geko is an economical, light to carry and very easy to use GPS handheld navigator.
Just download a route from Quo and backed up with a paper map fragment printout, you've got the perfect walking companion.
I use it all the time. If like me, you rate the "simple gps + paper map system" much better than the expensive gps's that have maps on board, then the Geko is for you.
It's very reliable with good accuracy.
Two downsides:
(1)There is no built-in battery. Nevertheless, I have found using Energizer re-chargeable AA's a pretty good alternative as the Geko has an NiMh battery selection option.
(2)Signal strength can be a problem. To get around this, so don't keep it in your pocket. It works much better if its in your mapcase.
To coin a phrase: "I'd be lost without my Geko!".
Happy Walking!
