A tight fitting lid.
1 of 1 found this helpful The lid is manufactured to fit a specific model of canteen mug. When used with that mug, the fit is very tight. When backpacking, any food stored in the cup will be secure in an airtight container. When it comes to cooking in the canteen mug, the lid will only be able to sit loosely on top of the mug. This will keep flying bits of ash etc. out of the food, but it will allow the contents of the cup to overflow safely if the contents should boil over.

A reliable kitchen timer.
It is a digital timer which can be preset for a given time to count down from. It can also be used as a simple stopwatch to time how long a task takes to complete. In countdown mode, a ten minute warning and a five minute warning is given before the final time-up signal is given. A useful kitchen item.

Difficult to Use.
Pro:- The mechanical pencil itself is fine - there are no issues with it.
Con:- The issues are with the red "lead".
1. The mark made on white paper (both Rite in the Rain and normal white paper) comes out as a pale pink. Pressing the pencil hard on the paper makes little difference.
2. Many head torches, and some hand-held torches, are able to show red light. When red writing (using the Rite in the Rain red pencil) is viewed under red light, the writing is invisible. This is also a failing when reading writing made by a red Chinagraph pencil; so the issue of invisibility under red light is not unique to Rite in the Rain red pencils. This feature could be problematic with the armed forces, first responders etc. who use red light to preserve night vision.
Suggestion:- At the very least, the "lead" could be darkened to make it more useful in daylight (if Rite in the Rain reformulated the "lead").
