Glorafilia Miniature Collection: Needlepoint projects
This is a very interesting book for the needlework enthusiast. The book is attractive, from the front cover showing all 16 projects, to the interior which is lavishly illustrated with coloured prints and monochrome drawings of the projects. I liked the detailed descriptions of the stitches used and the easy to follow instructions. I felt, though, that the details of making the stitches would be more useful within the instructions for the projects, rather than located at the back of the book. The projects themselves were well thought out, and could be used in many applications. The book was very comfortable to read and use - it wasn't heavy or unwieldy, and reasonably easy to understand for the beginner to needlepoint. I am glad I bought the book, and would recommend it to beginners as well as the more proficient with needlepoint.

Everything you need to know about freestyle embroidery
I have always liked and used freestyle embroidery, and bought this book to increase my knowledge of the stitches and techniques. The book contains many embroidery stitches with full information about the techniques needed and which threads to use, it also has designs you can trace and use if you wish.
I liked the "easy to read" format, the clear diagrams and explanations about the stitches, and it included many different stitches not commonly used, which was very useful. The book also contained some historical information about embroidery, which was very interesting.
I felt the book could have been printed either using a "loose leaf" format in a ring binder, or the spine of the book spiral bound, so the book could be opened flat when following stitching instructions. This would help when using new or intricate stitches.
I am glad I bought this book, and would recommend it to anyone, whether a they are new embroiderer or someone who is more proficient.

Ribbon Trims: An Embellishment Idea Book
A very interesting book covering the history of ribbons and their use in trimming clothing and accessories. The book is a hardbook , a nice handy size, and not too heavy, and I liked the very readable style. The type used and the lavish use of colour makes this contains over 100 examples of different trims with comprehensive and easy to follow instructions showing how to make the particular trim. They range from very easy (the majority) through intermediary to a few which are more challenging to make. Examples show designs which are ruched, quilled, various pleats, scalloped, shell-edge, gathering, smocking etc. I had used ribbons before, but never these very decorative methods. Initially the designs looked difficult to achieve, but thanks to the wonderful instructions, I had soon easily and efficiently constructed several examples. I can heartily recommend this book whether for an accomplished needleworker, or for someone who has never before picked up a needle - the very basic information about sewing is covered. I am looking forward to trying more examples from this book. I have learned so much about ribbons from the exquisite examples of Victorian textile art shown and described in this book.
