Not the best, but consistently high level.
This is an extremely challenging opera to perform and mount a production. The performances by each singer, the orchestra, and the conductor are all very impressive. I can find better performances for each role on different CDs, but here, all the performance were overall pretty high quality. I was a bit disappointed by the Elizabeth of Valois role. The staging was also not without justified criticism, but the one thing I appreciated was that it never distracted from the performances. Riccardo Chailly manages an overall excellent performance, and the Concertgebouw Orchestra sounds excellent. Again, consistently high level of performance, but not stellar in any one thing.

If you love Shostakovich, this is a must!
An important book on an under-appreciated composer, and under-appreciated body of work (as famous as some of them are, still).
