Disappointing Black & White Illustrations

The story is charming but the black and white illustrations are disappointing. Of couse this is a matter of taste (see attached). Jim Tierney is best known for many stylish book jackets. His colourful illustrations for the 75th anniversary edition of Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" ARE fantastic. As the standard is high, here however only the cover is outstanding.
