Very pleased with this lens.

I bought this lens as I wanted the IS capability. So far it's been a pleasure to use. The focusing is positive and quick, the lens is not too bulky, and the focal length range suits most uses. The 55mm short end has to be considered a medium telephoto. I don't know much about how the IS works, just that all my shots so far have come out sharp even in relatively low light situations. It also focusses quite close for close-up work. I've only used one other similar lens before, the Canon 75-300, and I much prefer this one as I can use this one hand-held whereas before I always needed a tripod.
