It's a keeper!
I think one sign of a good song is if it can be re-interpreted in one or more alternative styles and still be enjoyed.
What Paul Anka has chosen to translate and present here is, largely, on point and worthy of applause.
An easy lounge/swing genre is not for everybody, but then neither are the genres of the original versions of these songs, nor, perhaps, the original artists. So, 'swings and roundabouts', some might say. Keep an open mind and give it a chance.
If you have any level of soul within you then you'll find yourself smiling and singing along to at least half of these tracks.
Personally, I love cover versions of songs for the way they can often overturn any initial dislike I might have held towards an original version. In some cases, they encourage me to seek out original versions I may not have been aware of. If you share or seek similar experiences, this album is a very inoffensive and enjoyable way of attaining that. Get it!

It's a keeper!
What a cross-cultural gem! Two musicians at the top of their respective games collaborate on this absorbing collection of tracks. Toure's mastery of African desert-blues is matched by Cooder's mastery of American blues from across the Atlantic, and the two weave their magic on the pieces offered herein. Any vocals are in Toure's native tongue, and that matters not. If you want an example of how music can transcend language barriers, this is a good album to cite as reference.
Anyone with an open mind and eclectic taste in music should have a copy of this in their library.

For those completists.
After knowing and appreciating about four or five of the tracks on this album from four or five separate albums and/or compilations on which the tracks that I knew appeared, I chose to buy this due to my ‘completist’ outlook.
There was only one track I did not already have, and so attaining that satisfied the completist need.
But, what I would say about this album is that, on its own, it’s not a ‘classic’.
However, if you’ve heard only one or two of the songs which Kate Rogers has sung on a Grand Central label production, and enjoyed them, then you can’t go wrong with this collection.
