Perfect upgrade from mechanical machine and for getting started in embroidery!
4 of 4 found this helpful I bought this because I needed more stitches than my very old machine had and I wanted basic embroidery capability. So far, I have found it to be exactly what I need. The variety of stitches available and the features (auto needle threading, auto thread cutting, etc) are such a convenience. The screen is easy to read and the machine is user-friendly. I took the time to go through the instruction manual and I keep it handy for answering questions on the numerous features. The embroidery capability is perfect for small projects and everything I have tried has stitched out beautifully. Much of the success is due to the excellent advice I have found on various sites concerning the best thread and stabilizers for different fabrics. I spent a great deal of time researching affordable sewing machines that also had embroidery function. I was concerned about the Mac compatibility, but it is not a problem. There is advice on line about how to work around this issue. I believe the SE400 is the best option for both sewing and embroidery in this price range.
