Brubeck Was Great Before Take Five

Included are four LPs. 'Junior College' was my first 'modern jazz' purchase back in 1958. (I had previously been trad fan). Brubeck was not a critics' favourite then but, as a teenager, I loved it, Still do. Think my younger judgement was sound. Desmond is wonderful. 'Impressions of USA' is not easy to come by so very welcome. It contains Joe Morello's great drum solo, 'Sounds Of The Loop'. Drum solos can be boring. Not this. 'Brubeck Plays Brubeck' is solo piano. Not one I'd rush out to buy buy pleasant. 'Dogs Disney' has always been admired. After 'Take Five', Brubeck's star soared and he is now well respected. At least two of these earlier recordings deserve the high praise that was once denied them.
