Never made it to the end, lost interest
Sorry John, this book is naff. Starts out ok in the introduction, your comical observations and erudite wit sucks one in. Thereafter, chapter by chapter, it becomes clear, the content is just a string of cliches. Still because the copy I have is not well thumbed, almost in as new condition, I can stick it in the Christmas Stocking of a friend who is more sycophantic than myself, so it isn't a complete waste of money. Although I guess I be seeing the book again in the bargain base 10 for the price of one bin at the charity shop. I don't wanna be yours.

Better than I'd expected
I have bought this type of product in past and haven't been impressed. But these remotes just worked straight out the box and made using my media centre pc by way of remote very easy. If I were to suggest an improvement, then maybe dedicated copy, paste and delete buttons?

I have now read both books by Alan Moorehead, The White Nile and The Blue Nile and both are equally as enjoyable - the Nile brings a smile
Came across this book by happenstance, sometimes that happens, one might have seen or been told about a title that seems to twitch the imagination. And quite soon upon reading the book it became all the more absorbing with one chapter after another both informing entertaining and educating. The content is written in an almost prosaic manner even when describing the most mundane circumstances. I'll never tire of tales of derring do, the bizarre and eccentric characters that find their way into books such as this. They say fact is stranger than fiction, and that claim is made all the more convincing when reading about this world of ours in circumstances such as those written about in this book
