A fascinating production with well loved vintage actors
This is a 1971 dramatisation by the BBC and quite a literal one that is faithful to the book. The outside scenes are limited based on the BBC budget but it still manages to be a handsome production with lovely sets, costumes and of course decent actors. One or two of the threads of the story and the minor characters might be lost on a modern viewer but well worth the effort I would say.. it's not as lavish as the more recent BBC version but it is more accurate and faithful to its source,
