A Fantastic Contemporary Re-Imagining of Spider-man
With the Spider-man movie franchise being re-booted after the hugely successful Sam Raimi series, Ultimate Spider-Man is where they are drawing their inspiration.
Writer Brian Michael Bendis got his start in the realm of independent self published comic books and brought an entirely fresh vision to Spider-Man along with veteran Spider-Man artist Mark Bagley.
Starting from the beginning of the story, they go back and flesh out the story of Spider-man's origins. Expanding the original 16 page story by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko into this first trade paperback. Telling the story of Peter Parker as a contemporary Teenager and giving the characters a richer back story and increased depth. This focus on the characters themselves gives the action sequences much more resonance and an increased sense of what the stakes of the conflict are when you care so deeply about the heroes and his friends and family.
